Spirituality at Great Chesterford C of E Primary Academy
'The connection you have with yourself, others, the wider world, and beyond'
Spirituality is at the heart of everything we do. Rooted in our Christian vision and inspired by Ecclesiastes 4:9: ‘Two are better than one because together they can work more effectively’, we live out our motto of ‘Together we are great’ in our daily lives and learning through the connections that are made.
Spirituality is not something separate or additional, it is woven into everything we do at school. As well as in our biblical reference and school motto, this feeling of connection is developed and celebrated in our School Values:
‘God’s Guidance’ by making connections with God to show us the way to best live our lives.
‘Respect one another’ by valuing everyone’s contribution and their own unique way of being.
‘‘Excellent Behaviour’ by providing a purposeful environment where all can thrive.
‘Aiming High’ by recognising that by working together we can all achieve our fullest potential.
‘Tremendous Teamwork’ by emphasising the benefits of working collaboratively.
We nurture this connectedness and spirituality through our collective worship, our broad and balanced curriculum and the way we care for one another. We provide opportunities for stillness, reflection, curiosity and awe, encouraging children to explore life’s big questions and develop their sense of meaning and purpose. Through our own and our shared experiences, we help every member of our community to flourish.
We believe that it is through these connections that we are able to learn, grow and support one another spiritually- truly living out our belief that together we are stronger, together we can achieve more and together, we are great!
We use the language of ‘windows, mirrors and doors’ with the children to develop their understanding of spirituality.
